Frequently Asked Questions

Where can we get married?

Once your marriage has been legally registered the choices are endless, from a wonderful beach hotel to a romantic garden, or a pretty vineyard to a beautiful villa, or simply a place that has a special meaning to you both. However, it is always best to check if you need permission from your chosen venue or location.

Do we need a licence for a beach ceremony?

If you would like me to conduct your ceremony on the beach, as your Algarve Wedding Celebrant, you will need a licence to do this, as all of the beaches are public. Your wedding planner or venue, if they don't already have it in hand, should be able to organise this for you.

Can we have input into the ceremony?

Yes, we can work together to structure the ceremony exactly how you want it to run and you can include music, readings, your children and family. You can choose a variety of lovely unity ceremonies to incorporate as well, please see my unity ceremonies page.

How long does a ceremony usually take?

Your ceremony will be unique to you and it really depends on what you want to say to each other and also, what else you want to include. Some couples like to have a ceremony that is short and sweet, others like to include several readings, music and a unity ceremony, it's your ceremony so you can choose!

Do we stand up or sit down for the ceremony?

Most couples stand for their ceremony, so they can be seen by their families and friends. However, in Portugal it is traditional to sit down, so just let your wedding organiser know if you require chairs or not, so they can lay out the ceremony area just as you want it.

Can we sign a commemorative certificate on the day?

Most couples like to sign a commemorative certificate as it's lovely for photo's, it is optional, so again your choice!

Do we, as the couple or family, supply the materials for a 'Unity Ceremony'?

Yes, you supply all of the materials. There are lots of options on the internet, or some couples prefer to make their own.

We have been married before, is a symbolic wedding ceremony right for us?

Yes, as couples who have been married before often want to have a different sort of ceremony when they say 'I do'. A symbolic wedding ceremony is the perfect way to have a different feel to your special day. It can be as formal or relaxed as you want it to be and can include your blended family and friends, making it feel really special.

Do you conduct same-sex ceremonies?

Yes I do, I can help you to plan a very personal and meaningful ceremony.

When can we have our vows renewed?

It is always the right time to say 'I love you' again! Some couples choose a special anniversary, other couples on an annual basis. It can be just the two of you, or with family and friends who can share your special day with you.

How long are you there for on the day?

I usually arrive before the ceremony with time to have a chat with you, your wedding organiser and musicians. Once the ceremony is finished I leave quietly at an appropriate time, so you can enjoy the rest of your day.

What will you wear?

Usually something smart and neutral, but happy to wear bright if requested.
